Best BlackBerry Torch 9800 covers, cases and accessories

By

A good cover/case and the right accessories can only improve on the Blackberry Torch 9800 which is already one of the best RIM devices available. Not only does the Torch deliver unique full QWERTY slider keyboard but it also has a first rate touch screen. It is the first device with the Blackberry OS 6 which is significantly better than OS 5.x. Combine these features with a some first class accessories and you have a device that compare favorably to any smart phone. Here are some accessories to consider for your phone.

Cases and Holsters

Holster and pouch cases are a standard for all Blackberry phones and the Torch is no exception. The cases that RIM provides with their phones tend to be high quality and functional. They provide a place to keep your phone when it is not in use and allow you to hold the phone on your belt. But the standard case is bulky and somewhat dull. There are many after market holster cases that provide the same protection, but are slimmer and more stylish. There are also wallet holster cases that not only keep your phone but other valuables in one place.
If you take your Torch in and out of its holster often, you will start to notice scratches along its body. The best protection to prevent this is a skin case which covers the all of the phone except the keyboard in a thin layer of extremely touch plastic. The plastic prevents the Blackberry from getting scratched up from every day use.
If you want full time protection for your smart phone, consider get a glove case. Unlike holster cases, glove cases always remain on the Torch 9800 and gives the phone from scratches and drops. Unfortunately glove cases also make the phone more bulky and can sometimes interfere with the sliding mechanism. The best glove cases are made from plastic or silicon and protect the back with one piece and the front with another piece. One of the best glove cases are a flap case that opens and closes to provide access to the phone like a book.

Screen protector

The Torch has a 3.2 inch touch screen. The screen is highly responsive and uses capacitive technology for easy input. Although the screen is one of the best RIM has produced, it is easy to scratch. Adding a plastic screen protector helps keep the screen readable.

Extra Memory

The Torch 9800 uses a 4 GB MicroSD card to supplement its internal 4 GB of memory. This seems like plenty of space for most usage, but if you use use the wireless multi-media synching feature you can quickly run out of space. Fortunately it is fairly easy to upgrade to your space by replacing the microSD. Cards as large as 32GB can be used.

Other Accessories

  • The Torch uses a Micro-USB connection to charge and sync data. It is a good idea to buy extra sync cables for each of your computers to have an extra cable for your desk to keep your phone charged throughout the day.
  • The phone comes with a standard 1300mAh battery. This only provides only 5.5 hours of talk time which may not always last through a long day. Buying an extra battery can be useful, especially if you travel often.
